In 1999 Yaguine Koita (15) and Fode Tounkara (16) from Guinea were found dead in the landing gear of a plane in ­Belgium. In the one’s pocket was a note that read in part: "… it is to your solidarity and generosity that we appeal for help … If you see that we have sacrificed ourselves and lost our lives, it is because we suffer too much … and need your help to struggle against poverty and war … Please excuse us very much for daring to write this letter."

Ieri è stato presentato il Dossier CARITAS-MIGRANTES 2011;
I minori soli in Italia risultano essere 5.806, in prevalenza fra i 16 e i 17 anni. Ragazzi esposti a maggiori rischi secondo quanto evidenzia il dossier Caritas Migrantes che sottolinea come sia di circa 1/3 l'incidenza dei minori stranieri negli istituti penali minorili e nei centri di prima accoglienza (CPA).

I minori non accompagnati titolari di permesso di soggiorno a giugno 2011 erano, dunque, quasi 6mila, 1.152 in piu' rispetto allo scorso anno. Dall'Africa, in seguito agli sconvolgimenti politici ne sono arrivati 2.466, inoltre, quelli comunitari sono stimabili in almeno alcune migliaia.

What is wrong with this picture? Four thousand foreign criminals who should have been deported are at large on the streets of Britain, released from detention centres because there is apparently no prospect of them being deported within a reasonable time. 
Meanwhile, up to three thousand asylum seekers and economic migrants, a shocking percentage of them children, remain locked up in limbo within the UK Border Agency’s thirteen Immigration Removal Centres.
It seems that nothing whatsoever has changed in Britain’s Kafkaesque system of detention since 2006 when the news that more than 1,000 foreign criminals, including three murderers and nine rapists, had been freed instead of deported, almost cost Charles Clarke his job.

Le 20 octobre 2011, lors du 81e congrès de l'Assemblée des départements de France, le Garde des Sceaux Michel Mercier a annoncé une réflexion interministérielle sur les mineurs isolés étrangers (MIE). Son porte parole, Bruno Badré, précise que ce travail débutera « dans les prochaines semaines », et qu'il impliquera les ministères de la Justice, de l'Intérieur et de la Cohésion sociale.
