On Tuesday, the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) released a report confirming that 13,454 unaccompanied Mexican minors under the age of 18 were deported from the U.S. in 2012, according to Animal Politico.Last year, the U.S. Border Patrol apprehended 6,548 accompanied and 24,481 unaccompanied children, a total that includes Mexican minors. The rate of border-crossing minors tripled since 2008 to the point that in 2012, unaccompanied minors comprised  79 percent of all juvenile border crossers.

Italia: occorre armonizzare le leggi sull’immigrazione con la protezione dei minori

Ogni anno le comunità di accoglienza perbambini e minori in Italia segnalano al Ministero del Lavoro e delle Politiche Sociali la presenza di migliaia di giovani stranieri non accompagnati. Si tratta per lo più di ragazzi che hanno un’età compresa tra i 15 ed i 17 anni, che non hanno cittadinanza italiana e che si trovano in Italia da soli e senza un adulto di riferimento che sia per loro legalmente responsabile. Cosa gli aspetta? Procedure non uniformi e poco chiare per l’identificazione e l’accertamento dell’età dei minori migranti, condizioni critiche nei centri di prima accoglienza, mancanza delle garanzie di copertura economica per i nuovi collocamenti in comunità e un sistema di tutela legale fortemente inadeguato nei tempi e nei modi.

UNICEF decries detention of children in adults’ prisons

THE continued detention of children in conflict with the law in the same prison custodies with adult criminals in Taraba State as well as in other parts of the country has become a source of worry to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

  The leadership of the D-Field office of the international organisation which Sunday in  Jalingo, Taraba State  inaugurated the state chapter of the Child Protection Network (CPN), also  decried the state government’s delay in implementing the Child Rights Law that had been passed into law by the State House of Assembly.

Unaccompanied Minors Deported To Mexico By The Thousands

U.S. immigration authorities apprehended 13,454 unaccompanied Mexican minors last year, the majority of whom were swiftly deported to their home country, news site Animal Político reported last week. 

The figures, provided by Mexican consulates in U.S. border cities and submitted to the country’s lower house of Congress last month, highlight the increasingly common problem in the United States of unaccompanied minors crossing the border illegally.
