The 16-year-old - Ahmed Ismael al-‘Akkad - was arrested when authorities raided the predominantly Sunni Muslim al-Midan neighbourhood of the Syrian capital, Damascus.

Roma – 23 aprile 2013 – Da circa dieci anni le politiche europee d’asilo e immigrazione hanno determinato un aumento del numero di centri di detenzione per migranti. Nella Ue e alle sue frontiere meridionali e orientali, il loro numero e’ passato da 324 nel 1999 a 473 nel 2011, senza contare i luoghi invisibili di detenzione come commissariati o cabine delle navi, cui si ricorre temporaneamente, ma regolarmente.

The Scottish Guardianship Service (SGS) has supported more than 100 unaccompanied young people - some victims of trafficking.
Each child is allocated a guardian to offer support and guidance during the immigration and welfare processes.
The Scottish government is funding the pilot project for three years.

Abu Maria is in 10th grade at a local school in Beit Ummar. He was arrested in early January on the charge of throwing stones and detained at Israel’s Ofer military prison, on the outskirts of Ramallah, for almost two and a half months.
